Greensburg native is published author

GREENSBURG – Greensburg native Beth (Duncan) Rich has published her first novel. “Could it be Murder” is a fictional story about a group of friends who start a business creating and marketing murder mystery games as corporate team building exercises. It’s a very successful venture; marketing is not necessary and the popularity of these games is the result of word of mouth recommendations. The very nature of the games makes them dangerous, and a vetting system is devised to select clients who aren’t actually interested in killing someone. The business succeeds for 20 years until a particularly unhinged client passes the vetting system and endangers the enterprise, the lives of the core development group and their families. A major plot twist is the development of client Guy Brown, who the gaming group learns is more than just unhinged – he’s insane! The action climaxes during a tense cat and mouse game in Yosemite National Park that ends with Brown vanishing, which leaves the development group (and readers) confused and wary. Rich’s true talents are complex plots and character development, and the novel’s ending leaves readers exhilarated and wanting more. Rich, a graduate of DePauw University, lives in Carmel with her husband Rich and their two children. In September 2024, she put her healthcare career on hold to pursue writing full-time. She teaches piano and is the co-chair of the parents club at DePauw. She admits her inspiration for “Murder” was a class in creative writing at DePauw. Rich chose not to pitch her novel to major publishing houses, but instead chose to hybrid publish it. In hybrid publishing, the author bears no financial risk to publish and distribute their novel. The publisher bears the cost of all component services including editing, proofreading, production, marketing, sales, distribution and wholesale costs. They recoup their investment from sales of the book. A traditional publisher will usually pay the author an advance, plus a share of royalties. Under the hybrid publishing model, the publisher and author share the costs of publishing and distributing a novel. The publisher is then responsible for producing and distributing the book; however, the author pays a fee to cover the cost of some of the component services. A hybrid publisher will not pay the author an advance, but will typically pay the author a higher share of royalties. “It Could Have Been Murder,” is available at Amazon and Barnes and Noble, and is also available for Kindle, Nook and other e-reader formats.

A gripping book that takes readers on a journey with Diamond Teams, a company specializing in a very unconventional business. It Could Have Been Murder features Kate, a driven businesswoman who, alongside her partners Sam and Chris, spearheads Diamond Teams, LLC.
